Jat demands OBC status in Haryana

The Jat community today demanded OBC status in Haryana ahead of the impending Assembly elections and stated that major issues concerning Jats should be addressed in these elections. ''The major issue of concern for the community is reservation of jobs in states and central government,'' spokesperson of All India Jat Mahasabha and convenor of Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti Tara Chand Mor said. Describing Jats as ''pro-democratic'', he said the community has got reservation and OBC status in states of Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. ''But despite long struggle, we are devoid of OBC status in Haryana and other states,'' he noted.
Stressing upon the community's demand, he said, ''We have suspended the agitation for the time being till elections but the office bearers and workers of Jat Mahasabha and the Samiti have been asked to continue a mass agitation.''.
